Black Joy Parade is a hyper-positive, family-friendly turn up that celebrates the Black experience and the Black community’s contribution to cultures past, present, and future.

If Black History Month were in need of a refreshed definition, The Black Joy Parade exemplifies its meaning. Every February since 2018, on the last Sunday of the month, this large scale event led by IDK Events, a team of devoted volunteers, and founder Elisha Greenwell and co-founder Amber Lester, engulfs the city of Oakland, CA.

Although this year’s events and activations will be different the JOY will be no less. Join the Black Joy Parade team to share their story from initial vision to execution and now the ultimate pivot that will set the bar for designing authentic Black Joy events 365 days of the year.

This session has been pre-recorded and will have a live Q&A component with our friends from Black Joy Parade.

Learner Outcomes:

1. Learn how to designing authentic experiences in support of the Black community

2. Learn methods for strategically partnering with remote volunteer team-members, community organizations, and city officials.

3. Determine steps to flipping a large in-person event to smaller COVID regulated hybrid activations.
